About

Jourvelope exists because progress is hard to see while you're living it.

Why it exists

Most goals change you slowly. You practise, train or build a little every day, and each day looks like the one before. Months later you've changed, but you can't point to when, or remember what it was like at the start.

Jourvelope is a small answer to that: a short video a day, kept per goal, so you can put who you were when you started next to who you are now. It's built around one question: Who was I when I started, and who am I becoming?

Who builds it

Jourvelope is designed and built by Ali. It's a native Android app, written in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, using CameraX for recording and Media3 for playback. Recordings are written straight to the app's own storage on your phone, and exports are packaged on the device, never on a server.

The articles on this site are written from that work: what the app does, why it does it that way, and what building a private video journal has taught about documenting progress.

What Jourvelope believes

  • Short beats perfect

A 30-second entry you actually record is worth more than a ten-minute one you keep putting off. The cap is deliberate.

  • The goal is the unit

Each goal gets its own journey, so its before-and-after stays clear instead of blurring into everything else.

  • Looking back is the reward

Consistency matters, but the payoff is seeing Day 1 next to today. Streaks are context, not the point.

  • Private by default

No account, no feed, no audience. Recordings stay in the app on your phone. What the app does send is documented plainly.

What it isn't

It isn't a social network, a vlogging tool or a productivity dashboard. There's nothing to post and nobody to perform for. It shows your consistency, but it isn't a streak app either. See how a goal video journal works and how privacy works in the app.
